a.      What is meant by computer generation?

The classification of computers on the basis of main component, their size, processing speed, system architecture etc. is known as computer generation.

b.      List any two advantages of second generation computer over first generation computers.

The advantages of second generation computer over first generation computers are as given below:

-First generation computer user vacuum tube as a main component but second generation computer use transistor as main component.

- First generation computer speed was up to milliseconds but second generation computer speed was up to microsecond.

- First generation computer were huge in size but second generation computer were smaller and faster than first generation computer etc.

c.       Differentiate between third and fourth generation computers.

The new expectations in fifth generation computers are:

-They will use ULSI (ultra large scale integration) technology as main components

-They will possess artificial intelligence.

-They will implement knowledge based problem solving technique

- They will be much faster than present computer.

- They will use Internet based applications.

f.       Define the term artificial intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence means the endowing of machines with some of the characteristic of Intelligence such as learning, recognition and reasoning  normally associated with humans.

Micro computers are classified into different types by its shape, size and the way of handling it and the position where we place it while operating. Its types are:

-Desktop computer

- Laptop computer

- Palmtop computer

e.       What are laptop computers?

The computer which are small in size, can be operate by battery and which can be kept on the lap of the users while operating so, they are called laptop computers.

f.       Why are palmtop computers more popular these days?

Palmtop computers are  more popular these days because it require less space, it can be easily fitted in our hand , it can be easily carry in our pocket as well as it has long battery life then laptop.
